A Celebration

I have come to admire the beautiful wedding pictures that newly weds have done.  My son and daughter in law married almost 3 years ago.  Having a fall wedding meant that there were stunning fall colours to surround them on their special day.

Hubby and I married 16 years ago this week.  It was a simple ceremony with only those necessary attending as it was a second marriage for both of us. We wanted the celebration to be true to the ceremony and vows rather than the “party.”  We had chosen a place along the river bank to set the stage for our promises to each other.  The morning was cool and as the afternoon rolled around so did the clouds, and the rain.  Despite the challenge we went to the spot we had chosen.  We managed to set up our spot on the stone altar, leaving the umbrellas behind and became lost in the moment.

Our rings have seen some weathering for the storms of life.  We can barely read the initials SLC in Hubby’s ring (S Loves C) anymore but we both know they are still there as are the initials on my signate ring – CLS (C Loves S) which was replaced unfortunately a few years later as I lost the original ring but not the love for the man who had given it to me.

We have both grown as do all married couples and most importantly we live day to day remembering as we promised in our vows “to honour each other’s differences.”

I am amazed how time has moved past us.  I remember the peaks, choose to forget the valleys and most importantly, took a moment this week to remember….

“When other’s searched for sunshine, we took pleasure in the rain.”
